Many people are interested in breaking into the sports and entertainment businesses. Today I am posting an interview on the subject. Many people will find it useful to listen in to the conversation so they can fine tune or begin to develop their plan and strategy for breaking into the business.
This is a conversation between Don West, Jr. and Wesley Bullock on April 29, 2008. The basic topic is sports and entertainment law and breaking into the business. Wesley will be attending the University of Miami School of Law in the fall of 2008 and will be interning with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) in Los Angeles, CA over the summer. Wesley was referred to the Legacy Lawyer by Therese Lambert from the UM Law School's recruiting office.
Wesley was the senior class president at Howard University for the '06-'07 academic year and has recently completed his M.B.A. Wesley has agreed to be a contributor to this blog in the future on the topics of sports and entertainment law.

This was a great conversation that has provided valuable information to others that I know who want to break into the industry. Thank you again!
The conversation was very insightful. It is clear that networking is important to break into the industry and this is clearly something Mr. Bullock has done, refering to his summer internship.
Being a professional athlete in search of a new sporting agent, i found this conversation very useful. I have been playing professional basketball overseas for the past 6 years. I have been represented by 3 different sports agents due to the lack of trust i have had for sporting agents. In the past 3 years i have actually been able to learn the contract negotiating process fairly well and have been able to land myself several rewarding contracts that have me sitting and a rather satisfying finacial position. I was wondering what it is that you are planning to be able to offer professional athletes that they are not able to get by themselves. Self representation or family representation seems to be a growing trend in the sports world due to the lack of trust athlete's have for sporting agents. It seems that you are moving in the right direction as far as trying to build a strong client orientated foundation witch is what we are primarly looking for. I think that we should maybe get in touch because i am currently in the process of re-negotiating my euro league contract and am interested in seeing what you have to offer.
Peter, your observations are interesting. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your career strategies. Please send me an email at dlw@donwestjr.com so we can schedule something.
